Decorating Your Christmas Tree - a step-by-step guide.
Step 2 - Garlands
The garlands tie together various segments of the decorated tree.
There are many things that can be used as a tree garland, such as
laces and curtain cords, but why not use your imagination to create
an original garland for your chosen theme?
Garlands
can be draped on the tree in several different ways. The more traditional
way, which is seen on the Victorian tree, is the swag pattern, which
is more formal.
There are
several variations to the swag, which can include hanging two or
three strands at a time or criss-crossing the swags over each other
in both directions. In the Scandinavian theme, flag garlands are
strung in vertical lines down the tree. An alternative is to run
twisted ribbons from the top of the tree to the base.
Whichever garland or method of draping you choose, it is best to
start at the back of the top and work down the branches. Use green
florist wire to attach the garlands to the branches. Step back from
the tree frequently as you are working to survey the effect of the
garland. Then, if necessary, any alterations can be made before
progressing too far.
